About me

Scientific background

I am Kristiina Roots, PhD – a medical scientist and clinical research expert with over twenty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and academic research. My scientific journey began At the University of Tartu, where I defended PhD in Medical Biochemistry, studying how ion pumps regulate brain activity – a topic that deepened my interest in how molecular mechanisms shape human health.

Professional experience

During my career, I have contributed more than 50 international clinical trials in several therapeutic areas, including neurology, cardiology, immunology and rare diseases. As a medical advisor for clinical trials I helped position Novartis as one of the leading clinical trial sponsors in the Baltics.

My work focuses on building bridges between global development and the local knowledge base – so that scientific innovation reaches patients as real value. I have also led initiatives to train new researchers and for mentoring, launching one of the first university-accredited clinical research training programs.

Data analytics, artificial intelligence and the future of medicine

In recent years I have broadened my focus to data analytics and artificial intelligence applications in medicine. I have completed Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate program and have taken courses in artificial intelligence development. I see technology as a partner in science – as an opportunity to increase accuracy, knowledge exchange, and collaboration between different fields.

My vision

Science for me is not just about data, but also about understanding life in all its complexity. The same curiosity that drives my research also inspires my art – both are ways of exploring how structure and emotion intertwine. In my business Art and Science OÜ I combine analytical thinking and creative expression to bring balance, awareness, and inspiration to people through science and art.
